Associate Professor Ryan Goss
Ryan Goss is a Queenslander who serves as the Head of the ANU Law School. His work in writing, research, and teaching focuses on the legal questions that define our democracy, and the interplay between law, politics, and government: constitutional law and human rights law.
His current major projects delve into Australian constitutional fundamentals and on criminal fair trial rights under the ECHR . His academic work has been published in esteem publications such as Public Law, the Human Rights Law Review, the Modern Law Review, among others. Notably, his work has been cited by the European Court of Human Rights on numerous occasions.
Professor Goss actively contributes to public discourse through media appearances and community engagement, addressing various public law issues. He has provided consultant and pro bono research work for several NGOs and has practiced as a solicitor.
Beyond his academic work, Associate Professor Goss has a distinguished record of university leadership. Since January 2025, he has served as Head of the ANU Law School. Prior to this, he led the Tuckwell Scholarship Program (2019-2024) as Head of Scholars House, reporting to the DVCA and overseeing Australia's most transformative undergraduate scholarship program. For this service, he received the Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Contribution to the University (2023). He also contributes to the Rhodes and Lionel Murphy Scholarships. Previously, he served as ANU Law's Director of Higher Degree Research (2017-2019).
